Multiocular defect (MOD) is an ocular syndrome with an autosomal dominant mode of inheritance, known in many different dog breeds, including the Old English Sheepdog. Most of the affected dogs suffer from various ocular abnormalities that vary between breeds. The symptoms include congenital/nuclear cataracts, microphthalmia, uveitis, secondary glaucoma, lenticonus, retinal dysplasia and retinal detachment. Dogs with two copies of affected allele have more severe disease and has an early age of disease onset.

Inheritance: autosomal dominant

Mutation: COL11A1 gene

Genetic test: The method used for genetic testing is extremely accurate and allows complete differentiation between affected animals, carriers and healthy dogs. DNA testing can be done at any age.
