So-called ˝furnishing˝ means that the dog has increased hair growth on the face and legs, which is described as the canine moustache and eyebrows. Furnishings refer to the variation of longer facial hair seen in all wirehaired breeds as well as some others.

(2010) reported that improper coat is occasionally observed among specific breeds, such as the Portuguese Water Dog. It is characterized by short hair on the head, face, and lower legs, rather than a thick and even coat covering the whole body.
