Dandy-Walker-Like Malformation (DWLM) - Eurasier

Dandy-Walker-Like Malformation (DWLM), also known as cerebellar hypoplasia is an inherited neurological disease in dogs. DWLM is characterized by a malformation of the cerebellum which leads to disorders and failures of body functions that are controlled by it. The first clinical symptoms may include various forms of ataxia, loss of balance, epileptic seizures, tremor, reduced or absent reflexes, subtle high-stepping gait and abnormal eye movements. Affected puppies show symptoms at the age of 5-6 weeks and have a strongly reduced quality of life.

Inheritance: autosomal recessive

Mutation: VLDLR gene

Genetic test: The method used for genetic testing is extremely accurate and allows complete differentiation between affected animals, carriers and healthy dogs. DNA testing can be done at any age.
